Serological Assay of Culture Filtrates for Staphylococcus Enterotoxin.

چکیده
color from ammonia was produced by an additional 5 min of incubation at 37 C. All strains of Proteus, except those of P. inconstans, generated detectable amounts of ammonia (Table 1). None of the Escherichia organisms was urease-positive. These findings were identical with those yielded by the urease technique of Stuart et al. The sensitivity of the Berthelot color reaction permits detection of urease activity of singlecolony isolates within minutes. Moreover, the proposed technique is rapid and reliable, thereby facilitating identification of Enterobacteriaceae. It is noteworthy that the Berthelot color reaction may be advantageous in demonstrating urease activity of organisms which hydrolyze urea much more slowly than does Proteus. For example, ammonia was detected from single-colony isolates of Aerobacter aerogenes after as little as 15 min of incubation in aqueous urea prior to color development. Application of the Berthelot color reaction to members of the paracolon group is currently under investigation in our laboratories.

Rapid, sensitive assay for staphylococcal enterotoxin and a comparison of serological methods.
Reversed passive hemagglutination was used to assay enterotoxin in culture filtrates and in food samples. With cells tanned and then sensitized with antitoxin globulin and preserved with either formaldehyde or pyruvic aldehyde, as little as 0.0007 mug of enterotoxin was detectable. The results of hemagglutination tests compared well with those obtained by quantitative precipitin tests or by imm...

Background: An annual update of information about the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus and staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs) genes is required in every geographic area. Aims: This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of the bacterium and type of associated enterotoxin genes in different food samples, using multiplex polymerase ...

Staphylococcal foodborne diseases resulting from consumption of food contaminated with staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs) produced by certain strains of Staphylococcus aureus are the second most common foodborne illnesses in the world. Analytical methods are essential for routine monitoring purposes and safeguard public health. Different methods for SE detection have been proposed although their...

A total of 249 strains of mesophilic Aeromonas including 179 A. hydrophila and 70 A. caviae were tested for production of cholera-like enterotoxin by reversed passive latex agglutination (RPLA) assay. A cholera-like enterotoxin neutralized with cholera antitoxin was demonstrated in the culture filtrates from eight (4.5%) of the 179 A. hydrophila strains, while none of A. caviae strains revealed...
متن کاملSimultaneous analysis of multiple staphylococcal enterotoxin genes by an oligonucleotide microarray assay.
Staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs) are a family of 17 major serological types of heat-stable enterotoxins that are one of the leading causes of gastroenteritis resulting from consumption of contaminated food. SEs are considered potential bioweapons. Many Staphylococcus aureus isolates contain multiple SEs. Because of the large number of SEs, serological typing and PCR typing are laborious and ti...
